The ongoing construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is having a ripple effect along the entire corridor, prompting an unprecedented wave of new development. As Urban Toronto notes, multiple developers have had their eyes on the Eglinton-Don Mills area for years now, with Aspen Ridge emerging as a big winner in early 2019 by acquiring the site formerly occupied by electronics manufacturer Celestica’s Toronto headquarters. The deal gave Aspen Ridge control of a sprawling 60-acre (24.3-hectare) parcel of land that will transform into the Crosstown community over a series of successive phases.

The project will also bring many improvements to the surrounding city infrastructure, including new bike lanes along Eglinton Avenue East. While the developer has yet to announce a firm timeline for the complete Crosstown buildout, Aspen Ridge does have imminent plans to begin construction of the first phase of condominiums, and investors are already lining up.

A High-Profile Part of North York’s Bright Future

Toronto’s Eglinton Avenue corridor already ranks as one of the most vibrant and popular parts of the city, but for many years, much of the new development was concentrated around the Yonge-Eglinton area.
